Jack Russell Terrier Question: How Much Food Per Day?

How many cup(s) should a 2 year female Jack Russel eat per day?
What would you recommend for type of dog food?

I have a Jack as well, and I feed him around 2 cups of dry food per day. With a Jack, the feeding amount depends on their activities as well as the food you feed them. Less hyper, less food, more hyper, more food (if he decides to eat rather than play. you know jacks and their love for play and walks). I try to keep his weight between 14 – 17 lbs as it is the ideal weight of the breed (to kim, Jacks are not as small as chuhuahuas)

If you feed your Jack crappy food like science diet, eukanuba, iams, etc., the dog will tend to eat more because its like eating junk food. Read the bag of the dog food, brands like the ones I mentioned are full of fillers and are of no nutritional value (to nicole, follow your own advice). Get some of the good stuff.

using both sites is better than just using one. it would be better if you have a mental list of the products available there so you can check the brands out on the two sites. just make sure the formula is suitable for your dog.

I use Canidae and Solid Gold as they are the only good ones available here and I switch brands after every bag. If Innova Evo Red meat is available here I would use that as well.

Quite less because of the size and age of your dog. I think any certified and good brand will do the trick.

Jack Russells are an active breed and will require more food than a non terrier dog of the same size. If your dog is a good size, not too fat or thin then your feeding correctly. For an adult dog there are a few factors to consider in dog food choices. If the dog is an indoor dog, it will need less fat than an outdoor dog- of course this too depends on your climate. If you live in an area that has Fall and WInter seasons then an outside dog will require more fat in colder weather to keep warm. Check the first three ingredients on the dog food label, one of the first three should be a meat ingredient such as chicken, beef, lamb, etc,,, not meal or bone meal or corn and wheat fillers. Call your local veterinarian to get their opinion too.

I like Nutro. Read the bag, since she is a terrior she is more active. Use that amount as a guide and then adjust accordingly.

They are small dogs that usually weight about 3-9lbs. These dogs should be fed at least twice a day! 2 1/2 cups of food per day! If you are feeding it twice a day then this amount divided in half! (2.5/2)

Science diet is the best but if you want cheap and tasty then go with Beneful Healthy Harvest Blend Dog Food by purina because that brand is awesome! Though keep in mind that cheap food has a lot of fillers and is not exactly the best for your dog!

read the bag, and follow the amount by weight and age. split it into at least 2 meals a day. if she seems to gain weight, reduce the amount by about 10%. if she stays the same, then its fine. if she loses weight, then increase the amount by about 10% (especially if she is a very active dog).

also, on a side note, Science Diet is HORRIBLE food (as in anything by Purina, like Beneful and all that other crap). dont feed it to your dog. if she means anything to you, look into a higher quality food.

dogfoodanalysis.com is a good site to check. Stick with a 4 star or better food. Science Diet, Iams, Pedigree and Eukaneuba are all GARBAGE~~~Try feeding something like Canidae, Wellness, Innova, Orijen, Blue buffalo…….I feed Canidae and my Chihuahua geta 3/4 of a cup per day. Amount of food depends on size of dog and brand of food. A higher protein food with less fillers means you feed less (and they poop less)
